Pumpkin Patch Family

This week's blog was actually a special order from a friend, and to be honest, I had a hard time getting myself motivated to dive in. She ordered it back in August with a September 15th due date. Wow, I tell my kids not to procrastinate but that is exactly what I did with this one. Sometimes 'starting' is the hardest part. But once I got going, I didn't want to stop. Let me show you how to grow, I mean build, your own pumpkin patch family.

STEP 1: Gather your supplies.

You need an old pallet and one piece of fence board for every 3 pumpkin people. Nowadays you can find free pallets all over the place, and if you go to the 70% off wood section at Home Depot you might come across some usable fenceboard. The purple spray on it means 70% off.

STEP 2: Cut your wood.

I basically just cut the pallet down to a height of 3 boards across. Then I cut the fence boards down to 26" each and dogeared the ends (angled them off). Don't forget to make a board for your puppy!

Step 3: Let's Paint!

I painted the front and back of all my pumpkin planks in a color called 'Pony Tail Orange' from Home Depot. This is also the same color for the Texas Longhorns, or in our house we also call this 'Whataburger Orange'.

Next, paint your pallet (I just drybrushed this) any shade of green that you like.

STEP 4: Paint your faces.

This isn't my first rodeo here. 5-6 years ago I use to paint all kinds of pumpkins; so this part was dejavue for me! I lined up my boards and painted all the eyes first, then the noses, and finished with Las bocas ~that would be the mouths! No right or wrong on this step-just have fun with it.

TIP: Google pumpkin face images and you will get a ton of different images to choose from.

TIP: An oil based paint pen comes in handy here for outlining and making your details pop.

STEP 5: Paint your families name on each plank. Add some paw prints for Fido!

STEP 6: Paint & Add some stems.

I used the end of some old stakes I had on hand that I painted and drilled in place at different angles. You could even use some chunky sticks for stems.

STEP 7: One of the last steps is to attach your planks to the pallet. I began with the middle board, centering it and drilling it in place with wood screws. Continue with the rest of your planks. If you like, you can putty over your screw heads, and once dry paint them.

STEP 8: Paint your sign.

Using a small thin piece of wood, I painted it the same color as my stems and then painted 'GOD bless our Pumpkin Patch'. You can hang this on your planks with a rope or wire; I chose to just drill it in place.

And that's all there is to it. I chose the wider planks, but if you have a larger family to build you could always use the narrower ones. Hope you enjoy your new Pumpkin Patch Family!

Beginning from here on out, I will be posting every other week instead of weekly. We are in 'prime time' craftin season so I had to make this executive decision. I will still be posting 5 times a week on Facebook/Instagram at mycrazycraftbucketlist. And if you haven't already, make sure and subscribe with your email for your automatic biweekly updates.

Check back in in 2 weeks to see what becomes of this 'gi-normous' cheesebox straight from Wisconson!

Happy Craftin' ~ Lori
