My inspiration for today's blog comes from my step daughter Brianne and her hubby Steve who just blessed us with our 2nd grandchild. Jayden (Jaybug) was first 7 years ago, and this past August we welcomed Britain Charlie 'Bear' Gonzales.....yes you read that right. Charlie Bear is her middle name....how stinking cute is that? She was my actual inspiration for this project. The above picture shows the very first "Peek-a-boo" bear I made for her....I think she likes it! Make sure and view the slideshow at the end for a few other versions I have made as well.
So let's dive into this DIY Peek-a-boo Bear.
STEP 1: Gather your supplies: .99 Goodwill Teddy Bear, $4 Thrift store frame, material of some kind (lace, burlap, I used an old fuzzy pillow cover)

Now the deeper the frame, the better. Mine didn't have a back so I had to cut one out of a thin sheet of wood.
Step 2: Paint your frame with your OOPs paint from Home Depot - if you are new to my site, I mentioned awhile back that OOps paint is the .50 paint sample mistakes from Home Depot - one person's OOPS, is another one's Bonus! After your paint dries - distress your frames edges. My frame was very chunky and had lots of character so distressing really made those features shine!

STEP 3: Cover your frame's matte, or in my case my sheet of wood, with sweater material, burlap, or lace. You want the design of the material to show through the frame. All I did here was hot glue my material to my wood.

STEP 4: Position your matte or board back inside the frame. Mine was so bulky because of the material I used that not only did I need to staple it in place I also added some screws...gotta improvise!

STEP 5: So now the back of your frame is probably looking a bit wonky- let's fix that. I used some brown craft paper that I buy by the roll from 'Dollar Tree'. Cut it so that it overhangs over your matte/board about 1" all the way around. Then I painted modge podge on the frame and the paper to glue it all in place. If you use a matte finish modge podge it dries up nicely and gives it a much more finished look. Add a hook, loop, or sawtooth hanger on the top for hanging.

STEP 6: Before you proceed any further, add any embelishments to your bear at this point. I added a gold tulle ribbon, but have also done teddy bear clothes as well! Now go ahead and hot glue your teddy bears hands/paws over his eyes (hence the name 'peek-a-boo'). Next, using your handy dandy glue gun again, glue 'teddies' legs, bottom, and head down to your material. Don't be stingy with the hot glue here; you need a lot!
And that is all there is to this Perfectly Posh Peek-a-boo Bear

These make fabulous Baby Shower, birthday, and Christmas gifts...the possibilities are endless. Enjoy the following slide show with some other cuties I have made..and you are not limited to bears as you will soon see....
Thanks again for sticking with me til the end on this one. If you decide to make one of these yourself and have questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
