Let me start out this week's blog by thanking y'all for visiting. And if you haven't already subscribed, drop down to the bottom of the page and enter your email.
So back to business, last week I shared my dilemma with you about not being able to find enamel pots, pans, lids, and ladles. So in my little world, if you can't buy it, you DIY it! Check out the enamel tea canister and enamel coffee pot below. Can you tell which one is real enamel and which one is an enamel imposter? Read through to the end and see if you guessed right. In the meantime, let me show you how to DIY it yourself!

Enamel DIY
Begin with a tin pan, canister, or even this little faux galvanized flower pot that I picked up at Dollar Tree.

Step 1: Spray your project piece with Rustoleum black matte spray paint. It isn't necessary to paint the entire thing black, just hit the edges and random spots where you are going to want to show some 'aging'.

Step 2: You will need some vaseline and some white glossy spray paint. With your fingers or a q-tip, spread small dabs of Vaseline in various spots on your project over where you have already applied black paint. Make sure if you have lettering, like I do here, to 'grease' those areas up too!

Step 3: Spray 2 coats of white paint over entire project. Watch out for your arm, lol. 2 days later and I still have paint on mine!

Step 4: Let your project dry for 20 minutes or until it isn't tacky any more. With a clean cloth, begin to gently wipe away the areas that you previously applied Vaseline to; revealing the black underneath.

Optional Step 5: Using a toothbrush and some watered down black acrylic paint, create a light splatter effect on your project. Dip toothbrush in paint and slide thumb back & forth over the bristles, all while holding you project close to the toothbrush. This will create the look of true tiny black dots on white enamel.
So if you noticed, I started out with a pot that said Flowers & Garden and ended up with one that says Fleurs & Planter. Sorry about the confusion, I was making 2 of these at the same time and didn't even realize until I posted pictures, that they were different! Both are cute & chippy enamel now though!

Enjoy your enamel whenever you want now, whether you buy it or DIY it! And did you guess correctly which one was real enamel and which one was the imposter between the tea canister and the coffee pot? Surprise-Surprise....they are both enamel 'wannabes' that I created with the above process!!!! Sorry it was a bit of a trick question.
