Praise HIM Door!

So anyone who knows me, knows that other then being 'kind of' crafty... I am also 'kind of' thrifty! I have my frequent haunts I go to, and once every week or two I like to stop by The Habitat for Humanity Restore. I mainly look for doors when I go there, and this one was a great size for only $1.00!!! I already knew exactly what I wanted the door to 'say' . I had met a cute older couple in Texarkana about a year ago who shared these words with me, "When God closes a door, Praise HIM in the hallway". Loved it then and I love it now. So this one immediately went to the top of my bucket list! Let me show you a quick project I made with this door.
Step 1, like in most projects, was to sand this door down; focusing on edges, corners, and other random spots that you think would randomly show wear. This particular door was already nicely primed so I skipped the painting step.
Next, I use my baby oil/stain combination to add some color, dimension, and age. Just swab some stain on your distressed areas with a q-tip, then go over it with baby oil applied to a cotton ball. Super easy!
Let this rest about 15 minutes and then wipe off any remaining oils on your board with a paper towel.
For your lettering you can use a stencil, or if you are lucky enough to have a good friend with a cricut machine, (thanks Wendy) you can get some vinyl letters cut out and apply them.
The final step is to add your embellishment. I used a cross I had on hand. E6000 glue is my go to adhesive for this job. A door knob looks super cute too!
That's it. Easy, fast, and inexpensive. I see lots more of these in my future ... These make Great Gifts!

Check out the following slide show of other versions I have made using a glass door, various handles & knobs, a stencil, and other embellishments.
Have fun making this........and remember, if that's not your thing, this is for sale over at my booths at Alamo Craft Company, 6151 NW Loop 410, San Antonio, TX 78238. I also take special orders if you don't see exactly what you are looking for, or you live out of town. Just email me at lorisaenz@sbcglobal.net.
The Saenz Casa is going on vacation next week so my blog will be on hiatus until Thursday, July 27th. Visit me then to see what you can do with all those mason jar rings you have leftover after painting and crafting all your beautiful mason jars (my sister is rolling her eyes right now!).

And if you haven't yet subscribed for your weekly DIY updates, scroll to the bottom of the page and just enter your email to subscribe. Thanks for stopping by. Lori
